Save For College Shopping

Question: Did/will my boyfriend’s engine freeze up?
While my boyfriend was driving his car, he ran out of oil. He stopped the car and got oil, & the car still runs, but it sounds bad. Although it is running, is there still a chance of the engine block freezing? Or is it alright, as long as he gets some more oil in it soon?
He doesn’t want to take it to a shop, because he’s trying to save up for college and barely has the money to pay his current bills.
Help?
Answer: I must go with bardic on this one. if you hear a rhythmic knocking while the motor is running no amount of oil will help it will build up heat (due to friction) and stop and no go no more just time will tell. If you can find someone that can change the bad bearing you can save the motor but most mechanic’s won’t change one, two or more bearings. they want to replace the motor, well on a limited budget you can hope to find a cash deal on the side, and hope for the best. but to answer the question catastrophic failure in emanate without repair to the bad sound. Good Luck.
