College Savings Maryland

Question: Can I get unemployment if I am a dependent?
If I am fired or laid off from work and my mom is claiming me can I still get unemployment? I live on my own. But I am being claimed because I did not make enough money to get back my full refund for what I paid in college tuition last year. (Even though I paid it myself with my own savings). I have plenty of my own bills and really am not depending on anyone – but obviously it doesn’t work that way. The state of Maryland.
Answer: If you earned enough money to qualify for UI benefits then whether or not your mother claimed you last year is of no importance. Benefits are based only on your income and how long you worked.
