The 1997 tax law changes brought
about the two new tax credits called the Hope tax credit (Hope
Scholarship tax credit) and the Lifetime Learning tax credit.
These new tax credits are available only to low income tax
payers with qualified tuition and related expenses.
How to apply for Hope scholarship tax
credit?
In order to claim your Hope scholarship tax
credit, you must attach the IRS tax form 8863 with your tax
return. You cannot claim any more than the expenses you incur.
The rules on Hope tax credit and Lifetime learning credit are
complex and there have been some tax laws changes since the two
education tax credits were introduced.
