Question: best bank for checking account for college student?

i’m going to be in the southern california- san diego area, and there’s a credit union, which i seriously considered, but i’ve decided just to go with a big bank. it’s sort of between Bank of America and Wells Fargo. but now i’m starting to hear that Wells is crap because it has so many fees. so BofA all the way for checking? i’ve been researching and i’ve heard about the ING Electric Orange Checking Account…is that any good and how does that work exactly?

currently, i’m just looking for a bank that’ll get me savings, checking and a debit card. and probably credit card soon after that. the ING sounds really good, but that’s completely separate, right? and Wells and BofA have ATM’s on campus….so i’m sort of leaning to BofA if Wells is really that bad. i need to make this decision ASAP because i do need to buy school supplies and whatnot. and i would just be transferring funds from my current bank to another one. any advice?

thanks!

Answer: Go with Bank of America ESPECIALLY since you are a student. I have had a checking account with Wells Fargo and they have random fees.

Bank of America has an account especially for College Students with no minimum balance or monthly fees and all you need is $25 to open it. You can have a balance of $0 and never get a fee. They also have a program called “Stuff Happens” particularly for this account which refunds your FIRST overdraft charge for FREE!

Hope this helps you :]
